DE Fastlink, a subsidiary of Dixie Electric Power Association, has entered its next phase of growth: expanding high-speed fiber internet service beyond the cooperative’s traditional electric footprint.
After successfully completing its build to all Dixie Electric members in 2023, DE Fastlink is continuing its mission to connect rural Mississippi communities with reliable, fiber internet.
“We are currently serving about 19,000 subscribers,” said General Manager Randy Smith. “Through additional grant funding, DE Fastlink stepped outside of the Dixie Electric footprint this year to begin an expansion project aimed at bringing high-speed internet to underserved areas around our existing service territory.”
One area of this expansion project was completed earlier this year. “In January, we finished construction within the incorporated limits of the town of Seminary and made DE Fastlink’s fiber internet available to every home and business,” Smith says. “Now we are constructing in the areas along the Highway 49 corridor from North Hattiesburg to Collins. Communities included in this are Rawls Springs, Sanford, Williamsburg, and Mike Conner. Construction is also ongoing for the town of Richton.” Other areas included in the expansion project include Moselle, Eastabuchie, Glade, and Sandersville. DE Fastlink anticipates completing this multi-phase expansion by the end of 2026.
For residents eager to know if their address is included in the expansion areas, DE Fastlink has updated the interactive service map at www.defastlink.net. By entering their address in the search bar at the top of the map, users can instantly see if they are currently eligible for service or located in a “Coming Soon” area.
“Connectivity is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity,” said Communications Manager Amanda Mills. “Expanding beyond our original footprint allows us to strengthen our local communities by giving more families and businesses the reliable internet they need to thrive.”
