WiFi calling tips for iOS devices

How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi calling on an iOS device

There are several reasons why Wi-Fi calling may not be working. Here are several common reasons:

  • The latest version of iOS isn’t installed on your iPhone. You must have iOS 11.2 or higher.
  • Your device doesn’t support WiFi calling. You must have iPhone 6 or later.
  • You haven’t installed the latest carrier settings on your iPhone.
  • You don’t have a Wi-Fi network connection.
  • Wi-Fi calling is turned off in your phone’s settings.
  • Your device will prioritize a network connection over Wi-Fi when the connection is strong enough to make and receive calls. To prevent using a cellular network, put your phone in airplane mode and make sure Wi-Fi is on.
  • Your Parental Controls settings are on. If you’d like to maintain Parental Controls while using Wi-Fi calling, go to Settings > General > Restrictions > Allowed Content > Websites and select Limit Adult Content.
How do I make sure I’m only using Wi-Fi calling?

When you’re traveling internationally, you may want to make sure you’re only using Wi-Fi to avoid international long distance charges. To make sure you are only making Wi-Fi calls, place your phone in airplane mode and check to see if Wi-Fi is turned on. If you’re in airplane mode, a Wi-Fi call will drop once you lose your Wi-Fi connection.
